Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) is a minimally invasive, and relatively
painless procedure to correct mild degrees of farsightedness and
presbyopia. The technique uses radio frequency waves transmitted by a
small probe to the periphery of the cornea in a circular pattern.
The energy from these waves tends to subtlety steepen the corneal
curvature resulting in a shift of vision that will lessen
farsightedness, and enhance reading vision. It is most commonly used to
strengthen reading vision in people that have good unaided distance
vision. It is usually performed on only one eye to create a type of
monovision i.e. the untreated eye will be used for distance, and the
treated eye for reading.
A shortcoming of CK is that as one ages and
presbyopia increases the
effects of the treatment will diminish usually necessitating repeat
treatments every couple of years.
